An object at any time may capture my gaze. It's shape, texture, smell and size morphs into the beginning of a narrative. It may lie dormant in my space until another piece of the puzzle is found, usually a random find but there is an instant recognition that it will fit.

Sometimes I have to create the missing piece which might involve learning a technique like welding. At this stage I have a clear vision of what the end result will look like and  the message it will convey.

Enrolment into the Graduate Certificate of Visual Arts at VCA  2012 presented the opportunity to explore. I usually work with only a few elements to create simple structures to address complex ideas. Materials used include  recycled, deconstructed, moulded, welded, found materials and more recently film.

My intention is to create conceptual works which highlight contemporary global issues.  Subjects explored include death, gender, war, religion, obesity and cultural diversity.Recent residencies in Berlin and Varanasi provided the inspiration for the Indian video installation, I thought you were different. This  work filmed over a 6 week period captures the  cultural diversity  and my sense of the ordinary and being the "Other" in Varanasi. Recently the installation 'NoVaxNoEntry" is a conceptual response

to remind us of the global crisis and the social change  experienced during the COVID-19 pandemic.
