Deb Casey

Witnessing the silent loss of identity, dignity, life and country among disadvantaged Melbourne communities fuels my passion to develop sculpture and installations which question the status quo.

Studying Post Graduate Visual Arts at VCA in Melbourne 2012 presented the opportunity to construct simple installations with minimal components using recycled, deconstructed, moulded, welded and found materials.

My ambition is to assemble works which create a narrative to highlight global issues on subjects inclusive of war, religion, obesity and cultural diversity.Recent residencies in Berlin and Varanasi, the inspiration of gravitas in the former and color of the latter were catalysts for the video installations, “I thought you were different.” These  works filmed over a 7 day period profile cultural diversity  and my sense of being the "Other" in Varanasi.
